Language, Accessibility, and Diversity
Language, Accessibility, and Diversity Policy
1. Language of Publication
ETHIOINQUIRY publishes research primarily in English. Manuscripts may also be submitted in Amharic, provided they are accompanied by a full English translation of the title, abstract, and keywords. Manuscripts in other Ethiopian languages will be considered where accompanied by a complete English version and with the agreement of the Editor-in-Chief.
2. Language Quality Standards
Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English that meets international academic writing standards. Authors for whom English is not a first language are encouraged to seek language editing assistance before submission. The journal may return a manuscript for language revision before peer review if the quality of written English substantially impedes evaluation. ETHIOINQUIRY does not favor any national variety of English provided internal consistency is maintained throughout the manuscript.
3. Commitment to Non-Discrimination
ETHIOINQUIRY is committed to equitable treatment of all submissions and all participants in the editorial process. Manuscripts are evaluated without regard to authors' nationality, ethnicity, gender, age, institutional affiliation, career stage, or any other personal characteristic unrelated to scholarly merit. Editorial board appointments, reviewer selection, and publication decisions are governed by the same principle.
4. Accessibility
ETHIOINQUIRY is committed to ensuring that published content is accessible to the widest possible readership, consistent with international accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1). Authors are encouraged to:
- Provide descriptive captions for all tables, figures, and maps.
- Avoid conveying critical information through color alone in figures.
- Submit high-resolution figures that remain legible at reduced size.
5. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement
ETHIOINQUIRY recognizes that diversity of perspective, methodology, theoretical approach, and scholarly background strengthens the quality and impact of published research. The journal actively seeks to publish work that engages with underrepresented communities, under-researched geographies, and marginalized voices in the humanities and social sciences. This commitment is reflected in the composition of the Editorial Board, the selection of reviewers, and the breadth of topics within the journal's scope.
